As a Prop Maker, your portfolio is one of your strongest selling tools. Always take pictures of your work regardless of whether it is your own completed piece or if you were part of a team involvement on a larger project (production allowing) . If you don’t have any images, then think about making and photographing some pieces of your own. Key areas are carpentry, model making, sculpting, paint finishes. Look beyond your work just having a good appearance and think about durability of materials as well. There are helpful tutorials online.
Opportunity; we often get enquiries from Student Films and Cosplay. These clients don’t tend to have the budget to pay our makers industry rates but are good starting projects for ‘new entrants’ looking to build up their portfolio (There is usually enough money to cover materials and a nominal wage).
